Should I Choose a Celeron or a Pentium Computer?

By Patrick Schmidt. Tom’s Hardware website 9/3/2002. The original Celeron CPU was designed as a low-end competition to the AMD Duron CPU and was significantly different than the original Pentium. It is interesting how some stories never die because the Celeron and the Pentium 4 are the same CPU. The best analogy is they are both V-8 engines, the difference is that the Pentium has a faster fuel pump for higher speed. The purchase of a computer with a Celeron chip today is not a “low-end” choice as in year’s prior even though the price is kept low because AMD keeps competing with Intel. Read why if you’re not the consummate gamer or media processor you will never know the difference between a Celeron and a Pentium.
